What is Reiki?
Reiki is based on the use of natural energy. It is a healing technique based on the principle that the therapist can channel energy into the client by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the client's body and restore physical and emotional well-being. The word "Reiki" pronounced as "ray-key" is a combination of two Japanese words, "Rei" and "ki". "Rei" means spiritual or universal and "ki" means the life force. The meanings thus becomes like "The Universal Life Force Energy". Reiki is a nonphysical and invisible universal energy that vibrates at a level higher than personal energy. Here, by personal energy, I mean the energy which is purely individual and unique for everyone. Reiki does not work like physical medicines. It is administered by just simple laying on hands and can be used alone and also alongside regular medical treatment whatever that might be. One does not need to know the cause of illness. Reiki automatically redresses the cause, supplements and speeds up the healing process.
‘Like the ocean, the experience of Reiki is constant yet varied’
It is a fully positive energy and does not cause any type of harm to the recipient or the healer. In fact it cannot be used to harm anyone. Reiki never flows for negative purposes. A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well being.
The method of receiving Reiki is simple. The recipient remains clothed and lies on a couch and relaxes. The practitioner gently places their hands in a series of non-intrusive positions on or near the body. There is no massage or manipulation. The whole person is treated rather than specific areas. Sessions can take 45 mins to 90mins depending on the client’s needs.
What do Reiki treatments feel like?
Each person experiences Reiki differently depending on their individual needs at the time.
Clients may or may not feel sensations during a Reiki treatment. Benefits reported by recipients include deep relaxation promoting a calm, peaceful sense of well-being on all levels. Some people feel sensations of heat, tingling, or experience seeing colours, whilst others can have an emotional response, indicating that shifts are taking place, allowing harmony to be restored.
How often do I need a treatment?
Even one single Reiki session can make a difference; however a course of regular treatments may be more effective. These may be weekly, fortnightly or less often depending on the needs of the individual. A treatment plan will be discussed with you, and reviewed as necessary. This will always be subject to your own preferences, and can be changed at any time according to progress.
